QuestionI am 10 weeks pg, and was feeling so sick last night with a cold. I was up for hours and then finally broke down and took some medicine. In my sleepy fog, TWICE I grabbed my son's medicine (Triaminic cold & cough) rather than mine (Robi DM). So I got 2 doses of Pseudoephedrine, which webmd.com says "May be responsible for heart rate disturbances, minor birth defects, hernias, and clubfoot, but research inconclusive."
How bad is taking 2 doses (4 hrs apart)? Are these studies after taking for long periods or mega doses? I definitely will not take again, but I would like to know what risks have I exposed my baby to.
AnswerI doubt that the two doses of Triaminic caused any birth defects or heart disturbances. You can safely take Sudafed for stuffy nose or runny nose, as well as Robitussin for coughs. Take Tylenol, Extra strength Tylenol for aches, headaches, etc. Unless you have used very high doses of pseudoephedrine, there will be no problem. Don't worry.
