Irregular Bleeding After Ortho-Evra: Causes & What to Do

Question
I am 21 years old, I have a two year old, first day of my last period was last 2/17/2006.

I'm currently using the Ortho Evra for contraception. My boyfriend and I are very sexually active and he ejaculates inside of me all the time.  My period is regular between 20-24 days and extremely heavy and painful.  It's been 30 days and I finally got a very light period w/ no pain at all.  Not only is this strange because I was a few days late, but it was incredibly light (not spotting) and I had no pain.  Could this be implantation bleeding? Other symptoms I have are, light nausea, increase of appetite, tender breast and tiredness.  These symptoms are very very minor.  Could I be pregnant or is this my mind overanalyzing the situation?

Answer
A period is counted from the first day of bleeding the the first day of your next period. It is unlikely that you have a 20-24 day cycle because that  gives a very short luteal phase. Normally a cycle is from 24-35 days in length with an average length of 28 days. If your last period started on February 17, you probably ovulated around March 1-2. You could have conceived if you had sex on February 28,March 1,2, or 3. If you did become pregnant on one of those days, the embryo would implant in the uterus in 8 days (March 8). A pregnancy test would not show a positive result until 14-21 days later. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your next period. You were due for your next period on March 16, so, if you do not get your period by March 22, take a pregnancy tesst. Even if you had a very light bleeding, it may be your period. If you have any doubts, take the pregnancy test after March 22. Good Luck.
