NuvaRing Dislodgement & Pregnancy Risk: A Medical Q&A
QuestionHi! I am 19 years old with no children. I put my Nuvaring in on April 9 (which was after my period that occurred sometime between April 2 and April 8). The last time I had sex was on April 17 or 18. I always take the Nuvaring out during sex, but I am sure that I put in back in because I specifically remember putting it in and being sore (as does my boyfriend). On April 23, I noticed it was missing. When I think back, I remember waking up the morning after sex and having spasm-like things down below kind of like my body was trying to push something out. I didn't think anything of it, and so I went and peed. This may have been when it fell out, but I never felt it whenever it fell out. Anyway, when I researched stuff about Nuvaring after I realized mine was missing, it looked as if I should have started my period when it fell out. I have not yet started my period, and the ring has been gone at least a week and probably longer. I did have one spot of blood on April 22. If I had taken out Nuvaring normally to have my period it would be on April 30 (making my period occur sometime between April 30 and May 6). Could I be pregnant? And if so, when should I take a pregnancy test.
AnswerIf your last period started April 2, then you are due for your next period around April 29. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your period. If you do not get your period by May 7, take a pregnancy test and you will know for sure.
