Cryotherapy & Labor: Understanding Delayed Dilation After Uterine Freezing

Question
I'm due to have my first baby on May 15th (this Monday).  My doctor told me yesterday that I'm 100% effaced but not dilated yet, she was surprised and disappointed in that.  After reviewing my history she saw that I had cryotherapy of the uterus done several years ago and believes that may be why I haven't begun to dilate.  She said that it's typical for cryo patients to never dilate on their own because of the scarring that has taken place and she's suggesting I be induced next week.  I'm wondering if she's jumping the gun and I should just give it more time.  I'm worried they'll try to induce me and I just may not be ready yet, and I want to avoid increasing my chances for a c-section if there's a chance I'd go into labor on my own later.  What do you know about the effects cryo has on labor/delivery?  Do you feel inducing within the week of my due date is reasonable considering my history?

Answer
Hi Janine,

Let me first start out by saying that I totally understand your concern for being induced to early.  However, this is your first baby and it doesn't surprise me that you haven't dilated yet.  The fact that you are 100% means that your cervix is favorable for change which is a great way of saying your body is getting ready for labor!  There is always a risk for a c/s with any labor, whether it is an induced labor, or whether it is spontaneous.  The fact that you had some cryo surgery does increase the risk.  You might just need a little help to get the ball rolling.  I don't think that the doctor is jumping the gun here.  Are you having any contractions??  Let me know how you turn out.  Good luck!
