QuestionHello I was wondering what is the best method of labor for a female with a spinal condition?
AnswerHonestly, it depends on other factors as well: personal preference, any previous labors, pregnancy conditions, what kind of spinal injury, etc. If we're strictly talking about labor positions and an injury such as a generally bad back, I would recommend giving birth via squatting (and using a squatting bar), or on your hands and knees as this will take the pressure off your back. In addition, I would not recommend an epidural as this is injected into your back and forces most women to labor on their backs, which could be problematic. You may also want to look into water births- the displacement of weight via the water may also help alleviate pressure on your back.
Please let me know if I can help you further or with anything else.
Best wishes,
Helen =)
