Prochieve 4% Gel for Low Progesterone: A Patient's Experience

Question
i am 24 y/o pregnant for the 4th time in my life. I had 2 m/c last year 6months apart, and one at 15 y/o. I am currently 4 weeks pregnant again and my dr. started me on prochieve 4% gel, b/c i was diagnosed with low progesterone. I was pregnant at 16 y/o and i had an elective abortion, that pregnancy did not m/c i got to 10 wks of pregnancy before the procedure. a lot of people tell me b/c i was on birth control pills for 7 years that's what caused my progesterone levels to drop. my question is this, is prochieve 4% a good progesterone supplement to support my pregnancy for the first 12weeks due to my condition. i am very concerned b/c i don't want to experience another m/c. i have not got my progesterone levels back yet from the dr. b/c i just went 5-12-06, i started my prochieve 4% gel 5-13-06. thanks for listening.

Answer
Progesterone supplementation (Prchieve,Crinone, progesterone suppositories, etc.)does help prevent miscarriage. If you have ever had a miscarriage or if your progesterone level is lower than 10, you should take progesterone un 12 weeks o f pregnancy. Birth control pills do not lower your progesterone level. Progesterone is in birth control pills and your progesterone level will be higher.Taking progesterone will not cause any harm to the fetus and can only help.
