QuestionHi there,
I am a 27 year old female. First of all, let me say that I have a Gyno appt. scheduled for June 5th.
This is supposed to be a routine check-up and also to look into a possible cyst on my right ovary. I've never had one before, but have been expieriencing sharp pains to dull aches in a certain spot on my ovary. It has no rhyme or reason as to when it hurts/aches.
I had my last period almost one month ago. This period was slightly different than my other totally irregular periods where as I bled a little heavier and longer. My periods tend to be very short lived...bleeding wise.
For the past two weeks I have felt very nauseated. Threw up one day last week. Had to pull the car over on Tuesday morning to throw up and after eating breakfast this morning (water and toast) threw it all up again. I have not been eating as much...I will feel really hungry, take a few bites of whatever I am eating and feel nauseated again and "full".
I took a pregnancy test on Tuesday night that came back negative. I read that it was possible that a cyst can affect the test results. My question is just how much could a cyst affect the results? I don't know what to do!
Thanks so much for the help. The stress of this is killing me.
Thank you,
Mindi Bibler
AnswerA cyst will not interfere with a pregnancy or with a test for pregnancy. If you have pain on one side or the other, you should get a pregnancy test if you miss your next period. You did not mention when your last period started. I Can't tell when you are due for your period unless you tell me when the last one started. If you are pregnant, you may have a "corpus luteum" cyst of pregnancy. If you miss your next period, wait an additional week and take a pregnancy test. You probably took the test too early. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your period. Cysts come and go and we usually do not do surgery unless a sonogram measures a cyst at greater than 6cm in diameter.
