Gestational Diabetes: Symptoms, Testing, and Diagnosis
Questionwhat are the signs and symptoms of these disease?
AnswerDuring pregnancy, we test your glucose at 28 weeks to determine if you have gestational diabetes. You drink a load of glucose (100gm) and wait one hour and have your blood drawn. If the results are greater than 40, you will be sent for a three hour glucose tolerance test. If three are more than 2 abnormal values in the three hour test, you are diagnosed with gestational diabetes. There are really no symptoms, but you mauy be put on a special diet. As long as you keep your glucose within the allowed range, all will be well. When you deliver, your blood sugar immediately retuirns to normal.
