QuestionThe first day of my last period was May 5. I ovulated around day 12; we had intercourse on days 12 and 14. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 10 months; we are both 35 years old. My cycles are 24-25 days long.
Here is the question: I planned a weekend trip to visit an good friend on the weekend that my period was to arrive. I took a pregnancy test the morning of day 23 (May 27) and the test said not pregnant. Given that we had been trying for a while, I took the test at face value. I had one margharita that night and then one drink the following night (day 24, May 28).
By the time that I arrived home on May 29th, my period had not come, so I took another pregnancy test on the morning of May 30. It said pregnant. I am now so worried about the 2 drinks that I had before knowing. It was roughly days 9-10 after intercourse that I had the 2 drinks.
I am so worried. Of course I am not drinking now. I am not much of a drinker anyway, so not drinking (now that I know I am pregnant) will not be hard at all.
Have I done irreparible damage? I read a similar post, but I would really feel better if you could answer mine as well.
Thank you.
AnswerTwo marguaritas (even with lots of alcohol) will not cause any harm to you or the baby. Binge drinking throughout pregnancy can cause Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, with blindness and other malformations (teeth, etc). We used to allow one drink a week. However, since we do not know the exact dosage that can cause preblems, it is easier to ask our patients to refrain from ANY alcohol thoruout pregnancy. Don't worry. By the way, the best (most accurate) time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your period.
