Delayed Pregnancy After Fertility Treatment: Understanding Potential Causes

Question
my LMP was june 10, and my cycles are typically 28 days long.  we have been trying to get pg for over a year now, and my husband has low sperm counts.  he is on clomid to hopefully help raise his counts (he's been on it for 4.5 months now).  at the advice of my OB, we have been having sex every other day almost completely throughout my cycles, to maximize sperm count and quality, and keep them "fresh".

can you offer any insight as to why i haven't gotten pregnant yet?  i've had basic bloodwork done, which is normal, and my progesterone levels are good.  i've also had an HSG which showed clear tubes and no uterine malformation.

Answer
I think you should speak to your ObGyn again. You should not have sex that much. If you have sex every day you will drastically lower your husband's sperm count.  If you have a 28 day cycle, ovulation occurs, most likely, on cycle day 14. You can become pregnant if  you have sex from cycle day #13,14,15, or 16. Avoid sex prior to cycle day 12. Avoid sex after cycle day 16, because his sperm count may diminish.I'm sure that your doctor meant every other day after cycle day #13,  Check with the doctor. I think it is matter of time. It may be also due to the low sperm count. By depleting his sperm count due to having sex too often, it may make it difficult conceiving.
