QuestionMy husband and I are currently trying to get pregnant. The date of my last normal period was May 8th, and I was due for my period on June 5th. My periods are never late and I didn't start on time. I actually starting spotting a very slight pink on Tuesday then I didn't get a stronger flow until about Friday. When it started it was red, bright red. It was a very abnormal period and didn't seem normal. I have been very tired and extra moody lately also. On June 3rd I was also very sick. I was in a wedding and that morning I threw up 3 times and had a small diarhea spell but I actually had to run off stage during the wedding cause I was about to pass out. I actually took a pregnancy test on Monday and again on Thursday when my period hadn't really started and they were negative. Anyways, to make a long story short, I want to know when I should count my period as starting to determine when I should be ovulating.
AnswerHi Danielle,
I hope you are feeling better by now!
Your stomach upset and diarrhea sounds like most likely a virus or maybe something you ate or drank.... people pass out a lot during weddings believe it or not! They lock their legs and it cuts off circulation and you go down like a ton of bricks. (has happened to me but not during a wedding).
Anyway, about the conception and pregnancy:
It seems you have a normal, 28 day cycle then, based on what you tell me.
Your most fertile time (ovulation) and peak time for getting pregnant would normally be anywhere from 10-14 days AFTER the first day of your last period.
So, you got your period "about" June 6th-June 9th... (it seems it didnt know when to start!) Your fertile times would mot likely be anywhere from June 16th-21st (RIGHT NOW). I am giving this a large window of time, which normally would not be this large, but it is hard to pinpoint when your period actually did "start."
You MAY have missed the window this month, it may have just passed (sorry) so for next month, try this, (remembering that it is not a perfect science....)
From the first day you have a regular period, count forward 10-14 days. This should be your peak time to get pregnant. I dont know if this is an old wive's tale or truth, but I have heard that when trying to get pregnant, you should only have intercourse every other day during the peak times, as too much sex can actually lower the sperm count. You could also try one of those home ovulation detector kits if you want; you can find them in the stores. I never did use them but many people do.
So I hope that this helps you!
Good luck! Do not be discouraged if it does not happen immediately; the body is not a perfect machine.
