80% Effaced, Not Dilated: What Does This Mean for Labor?
QuestionMy doctor told me that I am 80% effaced but not dialated. Does this mean it will still be a while or should I be carring my hospital bag with me at all time? I can not even use my riding mower anymore without feeling like everything is coming out.
AnswerI wish I could predict when everyone was going to go into labor...I could make a lot of money!! Anyway, it is awesome that you are already 80% effaced. A lot of times, especially in first pregnancies, your cervix will efface before it dilates. At this point, I would have your bag packed, but it doesn't need to be with you at all times. Just know that it may take a few more weeks, or it could happen tonight. The pressure you are feeling is normal near the end of pregnancy. Just hang in there. It will all be over soon. Good luck!
