QuestionThank you very much for the information that you have given to me. My biggest conern is that is could pose a problem to future pregnancies. I would assume that this issue should be cleared before getting pregnant again. Do think that this is wise?

Kristy,
In April I had a D&C for a miscarriage at 11 weeks. A gestational
sac developed but no feotus. This was my second miscarraige in
8 months. The first one was fine. Bleeding stopped and my
cycles resumed.
This time I bleed and passed clots 1 week after the D&C and
then again 1 week later. My doctor perscribed medicine to help
pass any tissue and stop the bleeding. I got my first period at 6
weeks but then continued to spot. Blood tests showed my hcg
levels zeroed out.
I had another u/s that detected some kind of bleeding low near
the cervix. The doctor tried to clear the remaining blood in her
office.
She put me on birth control for two months. Still I spotted some.
Now I am off the pill. I had a period and still continued pink
spotting.
I want to ttc again but this spotting if on and off still. I am
thinking of seeing another doctor.
I do not know what to do.

Hi Tina,
I had a simular situation. I had a DNC for a 12 week miscarriage, and I was bleeding non stop. It went on for about 8 weeks, passing huge blood clots. It was quite scary to say the least ..
Were you by any chance anemic, or could you be now? Perhaps this could be a clotting issue?
I was tested for it, and it came back negative. My doctor perscribed me a medication called "anaprox". It was my savour Tina. Its actually, an arthritic medication, but I tell you ..it completely stopped my bleeding, clotting, and spotting.
And ofcourse, if you are uncomfortable with your situation, by all means, get a second opinion. This is your health and body ..and if it makes you feel better to get a concrete answer about this ..then absolutely do it.
Regardless Tina, I dont think this is a serious issue at all. This could very well go away on its own time . I have given you a couple of suggestions ..and I hope that is of some help to you ...
Also keep in mind, that in some cases where women bleed for long periods of time after a DNC ..that its not uncommon for attending physician to want to repeat the procedure. Sometimes, a second DNC is the cure to it all. Again, depends on the patient, and the situation of the condition.
Hope this was of some help.

AnswerHi Tina,
I think it would be wise to get this situation resolved before entertaining the idea of a future pregnancy.
I also forgot to mention prior, that sometimes left tissue in the uterus due to a miscarriage, after a DNC can also cause all the problems you are having now. I meant to mention that last night, when discussing the option of a second DNC again. Left tissue agents in the uterus, is NOT uncommon after a miscarriage, and abortion.
To my knowledge, a DNC will not pose any threat to your ferility at all. DNC procedure is also used to abort early pregnancy, and some anti-abortion groups will say that this procedure will pose a threat to future fertility. However, the pro-choice groups claim that is only said, to scare some women, to avoid them having the procedure done.
There are physical risks, but they are rare. Such as hemorraging, uterine tear ..ect ect ..But they are very rare.
I had 2 DNC's ..and have since had 2 children. So no, a DNC will not hinder your fertility, and its a safe procedure.
Here is a link for more information on this procedure.
