Post-Tubal Ligation Symptoms: Understanding Headaches, Pelvic Pain & Potential Pregnancy

Question
I am 31 yrs old I have 2 kids 9 and 4 I had my tubes tide the day i had my 4 yrold. For the last 2 weeks I have had headaches, nausea, dizziness, tired and now having weird little pains in the lower part of my pelvis. Could I be PG or could this be caused by other female probs?

Answer
Dear Tamitha,

The symptoms you describe can be hormonally related symptoms. Tubal ligation failures do happen, but very rarely. Tubal ligation, regardless of whether the tubes are cut, burned, clipped, banded, or tied, is about 99 percent effective, meaning that about 1 percent of women will conceive an unplanned pregnancy after tubal ligation. This failure occurs slightly more frequently in younger women. This happens because the tubes have evolved in such a way as to try to heal themselves, and sometimes a tract develops that allows egg and sperm to meet.

You didn't mention whether you have missed a period. If you haven't, I would suspect hormonal or other issues and would recommend seeing your doctor if the symptoms persist. If you have missed or are late with a period, then I would suggest waiting until after the full week of a missed period and then testing for pregnancy using concentrated 1st morning urine. Again - if that test is negative and your symptoms continue, do see your doctor for an evaluation.

I hope this information has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
