QuestionHello i am 5 1/2 weeks pregnant and had a sonagram today they said they couldnt see a sac and my hcg was in the range where they should have saw something she said also said it may be too soon to tell do you think this is a normal pregnancy or maybe a tubal?
AnswerDear Shannon,
If you are absolutely sure about your dating and had regular periods prior to becoming pregnant, then at 5.5 weeks, we'd expect your hCG to be at least 2000 and the gestational sac to be approximately 6mm in diameter. USUALLY this can be seen with trans-vaginal ultrasound.
So, if all these factors are accurate, an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy has to be considered as a possibility.
However, if you are unsure at all about the dating, even by 5-7 days, then it very well could be too early.
I would expect that they will want to do another ultrasound in a week or so to attempt to visualize the sac again. Until that time, all you can really do is try to be patient (though I know this will be tough!), and wait to get those 2nd ultrasound results.
I hope this has helped a little. I will have a good thought for you.
