Understanding Irregular Periods & Potential Pregnancy - Seeking Advice

Question
Hi :)
I have been bothered by this for some time and I would like to have some advice, many thanks! :D

Me and my boyfriend had sex last year, around the start of Oct, but I had my period for both Oct and Nov, with the usual cramps and lumps. In Dec, we had sex again and I missed my period for the whole of Dec.
A few days before my marked period date in Dec, I had some light spotting, pinkish blood. That was all I had in Dec.

Oh in Dec I had some part time jobs, one involved working till 11 plus at night. Both jobs I had were a whole new experience for me, I must say I'm quite pampered, as I've never worked before. Maybe it gave me some stress, unknowingly.

I had my periods for Jan, Feb and March. But sometimes after my periods(maybe a week later or something), I would discover some pink blood stains. I've taken about 6 pregnancy tests, all negative. The most recent one being in March (Or feb?).

The one thing thats troubling me is my "bloated" and rounder lower abdomen. I put on weight at the start of the year but my lower abdomen just looks different. I also lost most of the weight by now. My lower abdomen still sticks out. My pelvic area used to be flat but sometimes it gets all bloated and round, could I possibly be pregnant? I've heard some pregnant women can still have their periods. Some weren't even aware of their pregnancy due to monthly periods.

I've not had much pregnancy symptoms, only that once in a while I have sore nipples, sometimes I can feel this 'rrr' sensation in my lower abdomen(no not hungry, lol). When I press my lower abdomen, it feels kind of firm(I've been doing crunches nightly) and it hurts, like there is something hard inside.

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I would like to get some advice :) I'm going for an Ultrasound in May cause of my light spottings.
Thankyou again!

Answer
Dear Amy,

Some women have claimed to have had periods through their pregnancy, or at least the early part of their pregnancy, but this really is rare. And usually these women wouldn't have taken pregnancy tests if they were getting periods and did not suspect pregnancy at all.

You have had regular periods AND have taken six pregnancy tests with negative results. So, I really do doubt that you are pregnant - even with the firm abdomen. I would definitely attribute that to the nightly tummy crunches. It may be that the abdominal muscles are growing a bit there.

The spotting you are having after your periods sounds like a bit of a hormonal imbalance. Your doctor can check your hormone levels to make sure they are where they need to be, but more than likely this symptom could be resolved with a BCP if it becomes really bothersome.

I hope this has helped and answered your question. I wish you well.
