QuestionI have been on the nuvaring for over a year now, but my gyno put me on it continuously starting about a month and a half ago. She said I would probably have spotting, but it shouldn't exceed three months. Well, I have been spotting a little, but my nuva ring has turned a yellow color instead of the usual clear. I am sure it is being stained from the blood, but I was wondering if it was still just as effective, or if I should change it.
Thank you!
AnswerDear Whitney,
I can find nothing in my research about NuvaRing yellowing. I guess if it were me, I'd change it out just to be on the safe side. One thing that I would mention, though - you said your doctor wants you on it "continuously". I do want to make sure that you are still changing it out every four weeks. If NuvaRing has been left in place for more than four weeks, you may not be adequately protected from pregnancy and you must check to be sure you are not pregnant. You MUST use an extra method of birth control, such as condoms and/or spermicide, until the new NuvaRing has been in place for seven days in a row.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
