QuestionQUESTION: HEY BRENDA
THANK YOU SOO MUCH FOR YOUR ANSWER. i got my progesterone level result today and nurse told me that my level is 22.1. Is that good or bad??? now next Sunday Oct 7th there are doing HCG blood work on me, but my next cycle is on 9th do you think that blood work will tell if i will be pregnant or not?? how soon you can tell if u are pregnant or not before your next cycle start?and how?? with blood work or urine test???
ANSWER: Dear Sara,
The normal progesterone level during the menstrual cycle from cycle days 15-28 is 2-28 ng/ml. I'm estimating that's where you were at when drawn, so the level would be right within normal limits.
The hCG hormone starts to be released into the woman's blood stream soon after the baby implants into the lining of her uterus (about 6-12 days after conception). The hCG blood level will initially start off very low (at least 5 IU/L), but then rapidly increase (doubling every 2 to 3 days), so that within a few days to a week or so, the hCG level becomes high enough to be detected in the woman's urine. The earliest time a blood hCG test will detect a pregnancy is about 8 days after conception (or about 1 week before the next period is due). However, this is only possible for about 5% of women. Most women will show a positive blood hCG level by about 11 to 12 days after conception (or a couple of days before the next period would have been due). They will run a quantitative blood pregnancy test (serum beta hCG), as that will be the most informative test and give them an actual amount of hCG in your bloodstream, rather then just a positive/negative result.
I hope this information has helped you. Be well!

QUESTION: hey brenda
i got my period again. so now my dr put me on clomid 150mg QD so now we will see what happen.. i hard that i will be very moody while i will be on this medication. Is that ture??and on my 14 day we are going to do IUI again.
AnswerDear Sara,
Side effects of Clomid occurring in more than 1% of patients during clinical trials were:
-Ovarian Enlargement
-Vasomotor Flushes
-Abdominal-Pelvic Discomfort/Distention/Bloating
-Nausea and Vomiting
-Breast Discomfort
-Visual Symptoms (Blurred vision, lights, floaters, waves, unspecified visual complaints)
-Headache
-Abnormal Uterine Bleeding
Side effects occurring in less than 1% of patents in clinical trials were: Acute abdomen, appetite increase, constipation, dermatitis or rash, depression, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, hair loss/dry hair, increased urinary frequency/volume, insomnia, light-headedness, nervous tension, vaginal dryness, vertigo, weight gain/loss.
Anxiety, irritability, and mood changes are also side effects noted by some patients after Clomid was released on the market. With the way Clomid works, the brain releases more of the hormones LH and FSH to stimulate the ovary to develop egg-containing follicles. The side effects described tend to relate to your body's tricky hormonal balance.
You may or may not have a high intensity if side effects. They are mild for some, stronger for others.
Hope that helps and answers your question. I wish you good results with this cycle.
