QuestionHi Suzette,
I understand you deal mainly with pregnancy issues, but I am hoping you can help me with a gynelogical question.
I am a healthy 24 year old married woman with no children. I went to my doctor with what I thought was a yeast infection. The lab results revealed it was bacterial vaginosis. He tested me thoroughly for STDs as well, and they all came back negative.
My doctor prescribed me a seven day course of Flagyl. On days three and four, I felt immensely better. Today, on day 5 of taking the antibiotics, I suddenly felt just as miserable (if not worse) as I had before the medication.
I intend to finish out my prescription, as I have repeatedly read that stopping antibiotics will make the bacteria stronger. My question is, is it possible to feel better on antibiotics and then feel worse again, even while still on them? Is this indicative that the Flagyl has stopped working for me?
I intend to get a checkup at my gynecologist, but I will not be able to see him for several days. I appreciate any insight you can offer. Thank you so much.
AnswerSarah,
You are a good example of why we tell patients to finish their prescription. I think you should call your doctor and tell him this. He might want to try a different antibiotic. It's possible your body was fighting of your infection, but maybe you need to be on stronger antibiotics. It sounds like it came back. Call your doc! Good luck!
