IUI Timing Concerns: Expert Advice on LH Surge and Fertility
QuestionDear Dr. Harriet Johnson,
My husband and I have been trying to have kids. I checked my LH levels around 8am every morning as it got closer to the middle of my cycle. The instructions said that it may be acceptable to do first morning urine if I couldn't hold it for 4 hours. So I did and when I got my surge one morning, I scheduled my IUI the next day. But now I am worried about the timing of my IUI. The day of my surge and the day after I had cramps, as well as fertile mucous. Do you think my timing was right?
Thanks so much!
Amber
AnswerHi Amber,
I believe your timing was correct. An IUI performed 24 hours before or after ovulation has the best chances of conception. The catheter loosens cervical mucus and lets it come out more easily. It is common to see more fertile mucus after an IUI.
