Understanding Bumps on Labia Major: Causes & What They Might Be

Question
Hello, I'm an 18 year old college freshman and for the past six years or so I keep getting these strange bumps on the inside of my labia major.  They're the same pinkish color as the flesh, they don't itch or irritate me unless i put pressure on them when I wipe after using the bathroom.  All of my previous searches keep telling me it's an STD of some sort, but that's impossible because I'm a virgin.  I haven't had any sort of sex, anal, vaginal, or oral.  I haven't even rubbed up against anyone (genital to genital or otherwise).  Also, it's sparadic.  Which is why i haven't seen a doctor about it and let it go on for this long.  The bumps will usually appear for a few days every year or two.  Could this happen because of a hormone imbalance, ingrown hair (I do trim my pubic hair, but i don't shave all the way), or just lack of hygeine.  I do try to take a shower every day and wash well but they almost always inevetably come back.

Answer
Hi Ashley,

It is most likely due to skin irritation from tight clothing or the type of soap you might be using. You may also have sebaceous cysts which are benign and usually not a problem unless they become infected or painful. Try wearing loose clothing and change the soap, and any feminine products you use. If this doesn't help then go to your doctor to be examined.
