QuestionDear Kandeel,
My wife is pregnant second time. We lost our first pregnancy at wk 32 when the fetus was diagnosed as " Hydrocaphalus". Dr. operated and fetus came out by normal proceedur but was without life.
Now my wife is 6 weeks prenant, Last saturday we went to the same Dr. and she prescribed folic acid and vitammins which my wife is already taking. She done an ultrasound and told that there is placenta previa and my wife should have to take extra care.
I need your openion that is't it too early to declare placenta previa? Will it correct itself as pregnency progress. or what extra we can do to avoid any complication in this pregnency.
As I mentioned that previous fetus was "Hydrocephalus". Are there any chances of reoccurance or what should we do to avoid this also.
Thanks for your time.
AnswerDear muhammad
The risk of recurrence of hydrocephalus is really low and unfortunately there is nothing you can do to minimize this risk. Anyway, you should not worry at all. In my practice I have never seen a recurrence. Do not worry about it.
On the other hand, placenta previa can never be diagnosed at 6 weeks ; simply because the placenta is formed and starts to function at 12 weeks. Furthermore, a placenta previa is only diagnosed after 28 weeks when the lower segment of the uterus is completely formed. Before 28 weeks, there is a chance for the placenta to correct its size and that's why we call it at this time of pregnancy " a low lying placenta". No doctor would mistake this kind of simple knowledge and probably ypu misunderstood what the doctor said. I think you can check with her by phone.
I do hope these infi are helpful and wish you and your wife a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby.
