Marginal Placenta Previa at 30 Weeks: Vaginal Birth Possibilities & Management
QuestionHi there,
I have a marginal placenta previa at 30 weeks. I will be having a follow up ultrasound at around 36 weeks. Do I have any hope of a vaginal birth? Is there anything I can do (exercises, etc..) that could help this condition correct ?
thank you so much in advance!
AnswerType II or marginal placenta previa is a mild form of placenta previa where the chances of vaginal birth is fairly good. Since you are only 30 weeks now, it is possible that the placenta may migrate to the upper uterine by the next 6-7 weeks as the lower uterine segment grows very rapidly during this time. In a study done to identify placental migration it was observed that around 1/3 of women have a low lying placenta at 20 weeks. But only 2 percent actually have placenta previa at term.
There is nothing much you can do except wait for your next USG. No exercises or medicines are going to help promote a vaginal birth. Therefore you just have to bide your time for the USG at 36 weeks and hope that the placenta should migrate into the upper uterine segment, which should happen in about 70% of the time.
