Bleeding in Early Pregnancy: What to Know at 16 Weeks

this is my fourth pregnancy my last one ended badly. I had to have a dnc because the baby had a tubal defects on his head that was going to kill him minutes after birth they preformed a dnc. now im 16 weeks pregnant and started gushing blood i went to the hospital they sent me home telling me the baby is alive the heart is good and water bag placenta mucas plug is fine. they couldn't find anything that was causing the bleeding. the bleeding eventually stopped after about two days and has came back since then its off and on a lot i will have like a period one hour and then spotting the next then nothing at all and back and fourth like that quit a bit and im not sure what to make of it the only advice they could give is to rest. IM unsure if my body is going to have a miscarriage or if this is just a difficult pregnancy i have never had these problems before.also have thick and i do mean thick discharge with and wit h out blood and have been checked for infection and came back negative

This seems to be a case of threatened abortion with a 50% chance to continue the pregnancy and a similar percent for miscarriage.

At the current state of knowledge, there is nothing more than bed rest that can be prescribed, avoidance of sexual intercourse, household activites, physical excercise and similar activites. Progesterone may be prescribed on empirical basis.

I agree with your doctor; get a bed rest and follow up your pregnancy with your caring obstetrician.
