QuestionHello Doctor,
I am pregnant following a frozen embryo transfer, which was performed
on October 19th (3 day transfer). On November 14th I had some heavy
bleeding and cramping and went to the ER where they did some blood
tests and checked on my cervix which was closed. I was scheduled for an
ultrasound the next day (nov 15th) which showed a 4mm embryo, a
heartbeat and GA 6w0d. They also diagnosed me with a subchorionic
hematoma. The bleeding had stopped.
On November 19th, I had a second ultrasound. We saw a heartbeat,
6.34mm embryo (GA 6w3d) and a small detachment of the placenta which
is what caused the bleeding a few days back.
I have 2 questions: what are the chances of the placenta holding strong
and what should I do help?
The day of my u/s on the 15th I should have been at 6w2d, and I was at
6w only, then on the second u/s (4 days later), I measured 6w3d. I
expected more growth and I'm worried about that. According to my
conception date (since it was IVF), I should have measured 6w6d on the
u/s of the 19th to be exact. I find myself worrying about this more than the
small placenta detachment?
Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it!
Laura
AnswerFirstly there is nothing you can do to make the placenta stronger and since the bleeding has stopped and the baby is growing I am of the opinion that your pregnancy should progress well.
Secondly USG can measure the age of the foetus but it can do so in a range only. So do not be worried about discrepancy of a day or two. It is immaterial. All that you should be bothered is whether the baby is growing or not and i think it is growing well. I understand that being an IVF it is a precious pregnancy for you but by getting unnecessarily worried you are only increasing the chances of things going wrong. So be positive and you will deliver a beautiful baby in due course of time.
