Lower Abdominal Cramps in Pregnancy (27 Weeks): Causes & Relief

Question
Hi, i am 27 weeks pregnant and for the past 1 week have been having cramps in my lower abdomen.  They last hours, very mild, no spotting/bleeding/discharge.  I had a transvaginal measurement of my cervix 3 times in the past week since these symptoms began and my cervix is 2.8-2.9cm long, no funneling and closed.  I also had monitoring for contractions, none were seen.  Fetal HR is within normal limits. Urinalysis was normal. I was told to be on light activity regimen but no bed rest.
What can cause these cramps?  Do you think it is related to the shortened cervix or was it just an incidental finding?
What are the chances of pre-term labor given my stats?
How limited should my activities be?
Also, it may not be related but i was dx last week in gestational diabetes, mild.
Thanks!

Answer
The cramps are unrelated to the shortened cervix, so it is possible that these are just a incidental finding. Secondly you are at a increased risk of pre term labour, but strict bed rest is not advised. Limit strenuous activities, avoid straining in the toilet and most importantly do not lift weights. Otherwise if the cervix shortens further, or starts funneling, we can consider a cervical circelage.
And gestational diabetes is also unrelated.
