Understanding U/A Results: UTI, Kidney Infection, or Contamination?
QuestionDo lab results of the following indicate UTI, Kidney infection or just U/A contamination?
leukocyte esterase +1, WBC 10-20, squamous epithelial cells 10-20, and bacteria moderate
AnswerHi Kris. It looks like your UA test results are right on the border of either contamination or a UTI. A normal (although contaminated) urine can have 1+ leukocyte esterase (white blood cells). The squamous cells are skin cells, which could also indicate contamination. But the moderate bacteria could be a UTI. You may want to check if the doctor did a urine culture to determine if there is indeed a UTI present. That's really the best way to diagnose a UTI.
