Ovarian Cyst & Fertility: Managing a 2cm Cyst While Trying to Conceive

Question
I found out in March that I have a 2cm unilocular ovarian cyst. I was on Fecom birth control for 3 months. the cysts did shrink a little. the problem is that i have been trying to  conceive for a year and a half. I don't know if I want to continue taking the birth control pill. Should I continue to take the pills? Is there another alternative?

Answer
Hello Charlene,

A 2 cm unilocular cyst is not that bad.  However, since it has not responded to birth control pills, the I would worry that it is not a physiologic cyst.  It may be a peritubal cyst.  In any case, non-response to birth control pills is the criteria I use to proceed with laparoscopic removal.
