Getting Pregnant After Multiple Pregnancies: Tips & Support

Question
QUESTION: My husband and I have been trying to conceive for about a year.  I have three children from another marriage and he has one from a previous also.  I'm kind of worried because I've been unable to get pregnant.  I just turned thirty and don't want to wait longer to get pregnant.  I went to an herbalist who said my progesterone levels might be low and she gave me some drops to take.  I've been taking them for about nine mths now, but no luck!  My husband and I really want a child together but I don't know what could be wrong..I'm actually kind of scared that I might not be able to get pregnant any more.  Can you help me?

ANSWER: Most doctors want you to try for a year before they will do fertility testing or treatment.  Use a home ovulation kit to help narrow down your fertile window and if nothing happens in the next three months, you should consult your ob/gyn.  Good luck.

QUESTION: I forgot to add that between my second and third pregnancies I had a miscarraige..so my third full term was actually my fourth pregnancy.  Also, about two years ago I contracted chlamydia, but I was treated for this..could that of left me sterile or not fertile?

ANSWER: Hello,

Chlamydia can cause infertility but if you were treated right away, tat is not likely going to cause fertiliy issues.  An HSG, which is an x-ray of the fallopian tubes would help tell whether there is any damage to the tubes.

QUESTION: Okay. So I has an HSG done and the results came back...NORMAL!  My ob/gyn prescribed my some clomid to boost my ovaries, because all labs and bloodwork have also come back..NORMAL!  With the lady that just had octuplets and already had 6 children, what are my risks of multiple births?

Answer
Hello,

Clomid does have some slight risk of multiples, but it's only a small risk, and usually the risk is only for twins, not 8 babies like the woman in the news.  They should also monitor you with ultrasounds to see how many follicles you are producing, to prevent multiple births.  The risk for twins with Clomid is only around 10% I believe.  Good luck.
