CD3 FSH & Estradiol Levels: Interpretation & TTC Concerns

Question
My history: I am 36 years old and stopped taking BCP July 2008 (on BCP ~17 years).  I have been charting BBT and using OPKs since Oct. 2008 which confirm that I ovulate, but no luck so far.  I have longish cycles (avg 35 days) but a couple ~42 days. Luteal phase of 12-14 days.  This is our 8th cycle TTC.  My GP did CD3 blood work with results of FSH: 6 and Estradiol: 86.  Should I be concerned with these numbers?  I am now waiting for an appot. with the local fertility clinic, but the wait will be 6 months.  Any insight or direction you can provide as to next steps, questions to ask and what to do in the meantime would be very much appreciated.

Answer
Hello,

The FSH and E2 values that you gave are normal and good from a fertility point of view.  It basically shows that your ovaries are still functioning well.

Infertility is defined by the inability to become pregnant after 12 months of trying under 35 years old and 6 months from 35 years old on.  Therefore, you are at the point where you should undergo an infertility evaluation.  The basic evaluation is as follows:

1.  Hormone panel (FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, E2) on cycle day #2 or 3.
2.  Hysterosalpingogram
3.  Hysteroscopy or Sonohysterogram
4.  Mid-luteal phase progesterone level.
5.  End of cycle dating Endometrial biopsy.
6.  Semen analysis.
7.  Laparoscopy
8.  Pelvic ultrasound

These are the things that you need to do.  Time is not in your favor so do not delay.  Remember, it make take you several months to get pregnant.
