Synthroid & Clomid: Impact on Fertility & IUI - Expert Advice

Question
I am taking synthroid for two months only. I have also been taking clomid, estrogen and progestrone cocktail to try to get pregnant. Will the Synthroid affect my chances? I also just recently had an IUI in conjunction with my other fertility medication. I still have 5 more days before I can test to see if I am pregnant and I am having anxiety! Thank you for offering a service like this so people like me can get some feedback.

Answer
Hello Christie from the U.S.,

Synthroid is given to patients who have a thryoid dysfunction and are not producing adequate thyroid hormone.  It is very important for all your health including fertility.  If your thyroid level is not normal, then you will have difficulty getting pregnant.  Make sure that the level is being monitored.

The current "cocktail" you are using is the lowest treatment level and a basic treatment.  I presume it is because you don't have regular ovulation, ie don't have regular menstrual cycles.  IUI is the second level of treatment.  It offers a slightly higher chance by timing ovulation better and getting the sperm up into the tubes, but it still is not a high rate.  The highest chances for pregnancy is with IVF because most of the process required to become pregnant is being done in a laboratory.
