QuestionI have restarted a course of 100mg clomid following a hysteroscopy on 15 December 09 (I had a miscarriage in Sept 09 and there was retained products).
I did an OPK which revealed an LH surge on day 13. I then took an ovitrelle shot in the morning of day 13 and my husband and I had intercourse on days 13, 14 and 15.
I am now on day 32 of my cycle. I have taken 3 hpts (including one this morning), which have all been negative.
Is it possible that it is just the clomid delaying my menses, or perhaps that my body is readjusting after the hysteroscopy?
I look forward to hearing from you.
AnswerHello Irene from the U.K.,
First, I would recommend that you have a blood pregnancy test done. It is a lot more sensitive than a home pregnancy test and can detect even lower levels of bHCG.
The other possibility is that you did not ovulate and the cyst/follicle was retained. We call that a persistent follicle. In that case the follicle would still be hormonally active and so the period does not start. These often have to be suppressed with the birth control pill before starting another cycle. You'll need an ultrasound to check for this.
If the serum pregnancy test is negative, then I would advise that you wait another week and if no period ensues, then your doctor can give you Provera 10 mg per day for 5 days to induce a period. Make sure that before you start the next Clomid cycle, a baseline ultrasound is done to make sure there is no cyst present.
