Clomid & Fertility: Potential Effects on Offspring - A Review

Question
I conceived my second pregnancy via clomid in 1986 after a 'normal'conception and birth of a daughter in 1984.  My second daughter, born in 1987 via clomid assist, is currently having fertility issues..specifically polysitic ovaries....not necessarily PCOS.  Is there any research showing any adverse affects on fertility of daughters born through clomid intervention?

Answer
Hello Donna from the U.S.,

No.  There have been many studies looking at the children conceived by infertility treatments.  Although there have been studies that have reported coincidental increases in some anatomical defects, these have never been confirmed in other larger studies.  No adverse abnormalities have been found in the U.S., which has a bigger population.  In any case, there have been no relationships found between fertility drugs and subsequent infertility issues either.  There does seem to be a familial predisposition, however, especially with PCOD/S since it is a disorder inherent in the ovaries.  Certain racial types such as Hispanics and African Americans seem to have a higher incidence of this disorder.

I hope that answers your question.
