QuestionDoctor,
I have already asked you a certain questions regarding my misscarriages, but now it is not allowing me to ask a follow up question, so i am just briefing my case.
I have had 8 miscarriages till now, all in the period of 50-60 days. I have gone through all the test and all my reports are normal inclusive of both our genitic test. But each time when we gave the chronic villi test we got the result as contaminated or growth didn't show any metaphases. The latest was on Dec 09 and this was after i had spoken to you, you had suggested some of the medicine like Asprin, Progestrone, HCG Injection. My doctor also gave me the same medication but it again ended in Missed abortion at 58 days. But this time when we gave the Chronic villi cells for chromosomal analysis, it gave me a result where, the result is normal Karyotyping. You had suggested two test for me one was the Chronic Villi test and the other one was Immunology test, can you please let me know what is that Immunological test all about, and can you please specify the terms of the test that need to be taken. I am plannning for another pregnancy in April-May. Hope i would be able to do that test before that.
AnswerHello Priya from India,
The two tests that I mentioned were Chromosomal testing in you and your husband (a blood test), which is to make sure that you are not carrying and abnormal chromosome that is being passed to the fetus, and immunological tests. The immunological tests are antiphospholipid antibody (21 pt test), anticardiolipin antibody and natural killer cell assay. These are highly specialized test and usually need to be sent to a specialized immunology lab. You might want to check out the website for Reproductive Immunology Associates (www.rialab.com), which is a group that specialized in immunological causes of recurrent miscarriages, for additional information regarding these tests.
The other medication that I suggested, in addition to the ones you paraphrased, is heparin 2000 units subcutaneous injection twice per day starting at the beginning of the cycle. This is to help with reducing the immunological reaction and reduce the chances of micro blood clots cutting off blood flow to the fetus. RIA will suggest other medications such as IVIG but these are unproven.
