A lot of women are wondering why they can't get pregnant. The inability to conceive is a very common problem for women everywhere and may occur due to a lot of reasons, both psychological and medical. In this article, we'll briefly go through both.
There are two major groups of reasons a woman can't get pregnant. The first and larger group is those women that are either doing something wrong, are stressed or simply haven't tried for long enough. The second group, however smaller, is women that are medically hard to conceive or have a husband that can't and women that are completely infertile.
Women that fail to get pregnant tend to think they're infertile or that their husband may be as well. More often than not, this isn't true. It's a panic reaction. The problem is more likely to be caused by a variety of reasons, completely unrelated to infertility. However, sometimes there may be an underlying medical condition that may require some treatment prior to allowing a couple successfully conceiving a child. A visit to the doctor is mandatory in such cases.
The most common root problem for a couple to finding it hard to conceive is anxiety. Often caused by their own well-meant impatience or even from their friendly circle and family members. Calming down is obviously a top priority; some couples choose to listen to classical music prior or while intercourse, others try yoga and other exercises, others simply take a walk!
Getting into the habit of exercising regularly is great for when trying to get pregnant. Not only does it help release some stress, it's also great to maintain a healthy body which, as expected, is a great aid to conceiving. At the same time, getting rid of nasty habits such as smoking and alcohol consumption is advised as well. Adopting a healthy diet, staying away from take-away food and consuming vegetables and fruits is also mandatory.
Taking note of her cycle and determining whether or not it's regular will help a woman identify her most fertile days in which she and her partner should maximize their efforts to have a baby. If the cycle is regular, the most fertile day is estimated by dividing the cycle in two. A 30 days cycle will result in the 15th day after the period has begun to be the most fertile for example.
In many cases though, the cycle isn't regular and thus, predicting the fertile days is a lot harder. So, it's recommended that the couple buys an OPK (Ovulation Predictor Kit) that's considered to be very accurate in predicting high fertility days. At the same time, trying a home based sperm count test for the male can further assist the parents to be in timing their encounters to mach high fertility periods. As a general principle, staying away from heat sources (such as laptops), increases a male's sperm count.
If, after trying to conceive for a rather large period of time, while making sure that everything is done properly (fertility days count, relaxation, patience etc), the couple should visit a fertility doctor to conduct some tests in order to get to the root of the problem and find a treatment.
