Skin Cysts: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment Options

Question
My Mom (64 years old) has been getting cysts on her skin often for the past year and a half. Some have been very small-these have been on fingers, and between fingers. One that was behind the knee was medium in size. Two have been very large-one under her left arm was "cut" out by a doctor who used no Anastasia, was not stitched up although the hole left was about two inches long, and about one inch deep. This latest one is on the abdomen, just above the area where the left leg meets with the torso. This latest one erupted and is draining on its own, and the doctor is treating it with cream, and hot bathes. My question is regarding the cause, and if there are ways to keep from getting the cysts. After the trauma of having the first large cyst cut open without being given anything for pain, it was not easy to have my Mom get the latest cyst looked at. After the first large cyst was so brutally removed, she was a mess, crying, afraid of doctors, a nervous reck, and causing a bad case of shingles, caused by the trauma. If there are any ways to keep her from getting them, it would be a relief. She has enough to deal with because of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and other related problems. Thank you in advance for your time. a worried daughter

Answer
Hi Annmarie and thanks for writing,

I would suggest you have a Dermatologist look at those Cysts and ask him what they are excatly and waht you can do (if anything) to stop them or at leats treat them when they occur.

Without seeing them I really can't be too much help, sorry.

I do hope you find a kinder Specialist who will treat your Mother with more respect and dignity.
