QuestionI had the pill abortion about a month ago. I was told not to test myself for pregnancy for awhile because the levels would still show. It's been a month now and I couldn't resist to take a home pregnancy test. It shows Im pregnant. I have been on birth control for three weeks also. I have had sex since the abortion too. Is it postive because those levels are still in my system? Am I pregnant again? How long does the pregnany levels stay in your system? Im clueless! I plan on going to the doctor soon, but I'm just curious and worried. Amy
AnswerHi, Amy,
Your best bet is to go to a doctor other than the one who gave you the medications (in other words, seek a second opinion). Medical abortions disrupt the delicate hormonal balance in a woman's body with huge doses of hormones. So no telling what it will do to any given woman. This is a question about your own body, and nobody can answer that over the internet, not even a doctor.
You can do some searching for information on the internet. But most likely, you'll just have to chill for a bit. I wish I could give you more encouragement, but I can't.
Please don't try that again! You shouldn't want to mess with your hormones like that, because the damage can be permanent. I know, because I have been living it for 15 years. Not only that, but it can cause other damage. The drug used for the second course is being used off label. The manufacturer says it should not be used in pregnant women. For one thing, it can cause uterine contractions so severe it can cause a woman's uterus to rupture, and kill her, and there is no way to prevent that, that I know of. And it should never be used vaginally because it can cause toxic shock syndrome. This can kill a woman in hours.
Good luck! Let me know what you find out.
