QuestionI have had 2 years of absent period (give or take a couple of months) and following guidance to follow healthy diet, put on weight and try everything without medication - which I did 100%, I still had no period for a further 8 months. I have had an MRI pituitary - NAD, several U/S scans - NAD, womb lining adequate, no polycystic ovaries - and are both of a normal size etc. I then got put onto clomid for 7 day 50mg, following which three days later i had ovulation symptoms, and a temperature shift 6 days ago, however, today I have had a heavy bleed and don't know why this is. My hormones over this clomid cycle have been day 0 = oestrogen 233 FSH 10.5 LH 11.5, day 7 oestrogen 1400+ FSH 12.5 LH 15 day 10 Oestrogen 1400+ FSH 6.5 and LH 13.5.
Please could you tell me what this bleed maybe an indication of?
I am 28 years old and from the UK.
AnswerHello Emily from the U.K.,
I hope that you are seeing a specialist for your problem because this is more than can be handled by a GP or general Ob/Gyn. You need to see a specialist that understands hormonal and ovulatory disorders.
I am unable to interpret your laboratory results based on how they were done. First, FSH and LH levels are only valid to interpretation if drawn at their lowest levels, which is cycle day #2 or 3 of the cycle (the 2nd or 3rd day after the period starts). Second, I don't understand why you were placed on Clomid which is a fertility drug used to induce ovulation and not regulate cycles or induce a period. Thirdly, what diagnosis was made or given for your condition? A doctor would need to know that in order to know what treatment to use.
The bleedint that you had was probably a dysfunctional bleed.
Good Luck,
