Dealing with Emotional Changes in Pregnancy: A Guide for First-Time Mothers
QuestionIm 19yrs old and 27wks pregnant. this is an unplanned pregnancy. i was happy the first couple of months while pregnant. Now when my baby kicks i get annoyed, i dont like to feel her kick more than once, and i dont think i will be a good mother. Whats wrong with me?
AnswerThere's nothing wrong with you. Even mothers with very-much-planned pregnancies can become ambivalent as the pregnancy progresses, and the discomforts of late pregnancy and the fears of becoming a mother start to loom large. 99% of the time, though, all those feelings will go out the window when you first see and hold your baby. If you are really concerned, you might consider seeing a counselor before the birth, so you can discuss your concerns and maybe work things through a little bit. But don't feel bad about your "annoyance," because it's very normal!
