QuestionHi my name is alice from Finland,I have fibroids bigger one being 8cm,I earlier had myomectomy and had most of them removed but few were left since they were too small, they later grew back within 4 months, and they are about 5 or so,,am also HIV+ and was told I can not get IVF due to been HIV unless I go to private hospital, I had MRI and it showed bigger one is about 8cm as I said earlier ,and now am going for embolization soon now my question is can I be an IVF candidate still after embolization? considering all the info I wrote down?
Thanks Alicia Jansson
AnswerHello Alice from Finland,
That you for your query. Of course, I cannot tell you what can and cannot be done in Finland. Each country has their own rules.
In terms of the fibroid, it should be removed prior to IVF. Embolization can help to reduce it a little (no more than 30%), but does not solve the problem. Myomectomy is best.
In terms of doing IVF with an HIV positive status, in the U.S. that would be allowed under strict protocols which mandate specific precautions. We would also, make a distinction between an HIV positive status and HIV in remission (i.e. no active virus) and would test for this.
