Cervical Bleeding During Pregnancy: Causes & What to Expect
QuestionI am 27 years old and 12 weeks pregnant. Since I was 5 weeks pregnant I began spotting. I spotted for 4 weeks, light brown.. very light pink. It stopped for 2 weeks and started back up and started bleeding like a period last week. The doctor took a pap smear and I am waiting for the results. During my pelvic exam the doctor said that my cervix looks normal on the outer part but is really inflamed in the center. The bleeding is 100% from the cervix. It has been 3 years from my last pap and I have ALWAYS had normal paps. All signs of cervical cancer are bleeding from the cervix. I am bleeding ALOT( identical to a period) from mine. What are the chances that is is cancer after 3 years from a normal pap?
AnswerHello,
Cervical cancer is a very slow moving disease. It can years for it to develop. It has been estimated that it takes between 8-10 years for dysplasia to develop into cancer.
Cervical bleeding does not always signal trouble. You may have slight cervical infection that is causing the inflammation and bleeding. Keep in mind that many pregnant women bleed after intercourse and exams.
Remember to call your doctor immediately if you experience cramping along with the bleeding, heavy bleeding, and a fever.
Best of Luck,
