Understanding Histoplasmosis & Fungal Infections: Symptoms, Treatment & Mortality

Question
i've been diagnosed with a fungal infection that as it leaves my body it leaves behind calcium deposits which currently my superior vena-cava totally blocked off and the fungi is still active in my system. my question is do you know anything about such infections, treatment or it's mortality rate? my current m.d. says that's it's not that common so they don't get much chance to study it however the meds they have for it so far will make me sick and they'll have to monitor my liver. i'm just hoping for a few alternatives. anything you could offer would be appreciated! thanks! ---den--

Answer
dear den:
i assume that you are talking about histoplasmosis. if so - do you have cancer or are infected with hiv? if not, chances of cure with amphotericin b or an azole antifungal are good. if yes - the outcome depends on the underlying pathology.
