Waterborne Diseases: Risks & Safety Tips

Question
This may seem like a strange question, but I am really wondering.  Is skinny dipping any less sanitary than swimming in a bathing suit (applies for lakes, pools, hot tubs, etc).  I am wondering because someone thinks it is, and I still wonder why they say that because I haven't really heard any facts about it.  To me, I see it as...your fully submerged in the same water whether your in a bathing suit or not, and a bathing suit does not protect you from bacteria or anything, all it does is cover you from being seen by other people.  I think this because I know that when you get out of water, your still wet wherever you had a bathing suit, it certainly doesnt keep any water and bacteria away from your skin or anything the bathing suit is covering.  So, is it any less sanitary to go skinny dipping in water than to go in a bathing suit?  A big enough difference to where it would really matter?

Answer
From the standpoint of acquiring a skin infection from the water, there is no difference if your suit is on or off.  You are a little more exposed and get scratched from some plants or nipped at by some little sea creatures. But, it is as sanitary (or unsanitary) as doing it with your trunks.

Hope this helps....
