Scoliosis & Arthritis Treatment: Finding the Right Specialist

Question
Hi!  I basically need some direction.  Recently, I was diagnosed with scoliosis and arthritic spurs with fusion at L2.  My family doctor prescribed Vioxx.  As an active 51 year old woman, I don't want to depend on medication but would like to find a solution!  Could you tell me what specialty I need to be looking for?  Thank you so very much for any direction.

Answer
If you have recently developed scoliosis and not had it since birth, it makes me think that you have some muscle spasm twisting the spine somewhat.  The solution is pretty much medical therapy... meaning anti-inflammatories like Vioxx, a regular back exercise program and possible physical therapy.  It is unlikely that there is a quick surgical fix and if it were my back, I would want to keep it conservative, meaning the meds and exercises.

Hope this helps...
