Platelet Clumping in Blood Tests: What Does It Mean?
QuestionMy company has provided a yearly blood work up/analysis. For the last few years in the section entitled platelet count there is the notation "not taken due to platelet clumping" The company doctor didn't seem concerned. My HDL was 79 LDL 119 and Triglicerides 80. Should I be worried about platelet clumping?
AnswerNo, it is not uncommon to see this. Next time you have your blood drawn tell the lab techinician this occurs frequently and they can often draw your blood in a special tube that helps to minimize this artifact.
Your lipids (cholesterol numbers) look good.
