Doctor's Office Safety: Risks and Precautions

Question
I am just curious if diseases are ever caught from things done at the Drs. office?
I am wondering if when minor procedures are done at the Drs. office, anything from stictches to scopes in the nose and throat, shots, etc. if things are ever caught?
Simple things like colds, to major things like aids, or hepatitis?
Just a curious person, thanks for your input.

Answer
Hi Curious,
Of course you would rightly think it is possible to catch a disease at a doctors office. Oddly enough it rarely happens. We use universal precautions and are careful to clean instruments and sterilize others. Many tools are disposable so no problem there. Now, if someone sneezes or coughs on you in the waiting room, sure, you could get a cold or flu. Aids is VERY unlikely as is Hepatitis.
Unfortunately, nothing is 100% as to preventing spread of disease in our offices, but we do our very best to avoid this at all costs.
