Risk of Infection at Doctor's Office: What You Need to Know

Question
I am just curious if diseases are ever caught from things done at the Drs. office?
I am wondering if when minor procedures are done at the Drs. office, anything from stictches to scopes in the nose and throat, shots, etc. if things are ever caught?
Simple things like colds, to major things like aids, or hepatitis?
Just a curious person, thanks for your input.

Answer
In theory, yes.  In practice, the chances are very unlikely, but are real.  A perfect example is the spread of HIV or hepatitis C by blood transfusions before we discovered the viruses.

Instruments are usually sterilized after procedures, but the chance of having a contaminate instrument is probably as likely as getting a contaminated canned or jarred good in the supermarket.  Still unlikely, but nonetheless possible.
