Risk of Infection at Doctor's Office: What You Need to Know

Question
I am just curious if diseases are ever caught from things done at the Drs. office?
I am wondering if when minor procedures are done at the Drs. office, anything from stictches to scopes in the nose and throat, shots, etc. if things are ever caught?
Simple things like colds, to major things like aids, or hepatitis?
Just a curious person, thanks for your input.

Answer
Doctors are required to use new syringes and sterilise all instruments to perform minor surgery. It has been discovered that some viruses such as HIV can survive the autoclave if instruments are in it for only short periods, so they must "cook" everything for longer to ensure everything is sterile. You can get HepC by kissing - so dont kiss the doctor! Seriously though, if you are in any air conditioned room and someone sneezes you can catch a cold or the flue but not any other virus.
