QuestionI have had colonoscopy and awaiting results although I do know that a few small polyps were removed and sent for biopsy which I presume is normal.
I was aware of diverticulous and that according to a barium enema I have colon reduncancy, which I know is a longer colon with extra folds.
After test although I had no bleeding it seemed to take longer than expected to clear gas.
Also despite some sedative I was awake for the test and noted that despite the gallon of laxitive taken night before that colon was not completely clear. Could colon redundancy cause this as well as at times minor constipation due to longer transit time?
AnswerExactly. Redundancy may make you retain some of the prep fluid along some of the loopy columns of colon. Polyps are not a normal finding in the colon. They may be common (30% of colonoscopy exams find some) but are not normal. Hopefully, their nature will be benign, when examined by the pathologist under the microscope.
The redundancy also may slow down the gas expulsion... we have to pump a lot of air into the colon to inflate it.
