QuestionI have your earlier definition of colon redundancy from a previous question.
According to my latest air contrast barium enema I may be showing a couple of small polyps as well as diverticulous. But I won't see specialist for a consultation until June 18th and probably a colonoscopy after that.
Meanwhile I am scheduled to go on an Alaska cruise beforehand. Are their specific foods I should be concentrating on eating and others that I would be better to avoid, such as beef or red meats. I do take Metamucil on a daily basis.
From what I can see on internet diets for IBS and diverticulous are similar bot also different in some areas,
AnswerDiverticulosis diet simply involves fiber, fiber, and more fiber. The goal is to have bulky soft BM's that will not put stress on the colon wall as they move through, lowering the chance of bleeding or infection.
IBS diets involve fiber, but also food avoidance to foods that worsen it.... sometimes milk products, sometimes wheat, corn, meats, etc.
However, I would put the diet changes off, until after the cruise, since this is your vacation and the ships tend to have such wonderful cuisine.
But, in general, increased fiber, increased veggies and fruits and decreased animal proteins (not eliminated, but decreased) such as red meats are healthy in general.
Have a great cruise.......
